August 2010: Weifield Group Completes Electrical Installation for Boulder Valley School District’s First LEED Certified School
Casey Middle School leads the way as the first LEED certified school model in Boulder, CO.
BOULDER, CO – August 2010 – Weifield Group Contracting completed electrical installation for Casey Middle School, in Boulder, CO. Casey has been certified LEED Gold, and is the only LEED certified school in the Boulder Valley School District.
Casey Middle School was designed around two salvaged facades from the original 1920s-era building. The new school is 20,000 sq. ft. larger than its predecessor, and is approximately 54% more energy efficient. The increase in square footage allowed for easier accessibility and improved classroom space. The design team incorporated several energy-saving ideas including; a photovoltaic array, geothermal heating/cooling system, energy efficient kitchen appliances, and solatubes to direct daylight 
deeper into the classrooms. The new school utilizes recycled flooring from the old gym, daylighting, and adjusting automatic lights.
