November 2010: NREL’s Research Support Facility Wins National IEC Efficient Energy/Green Construction – LEED Approved Award
The Research Support Facility was chosen from a national pool of LEED approved buildings as the most energy efficient new building in 2010.
DENVER, CO – November 2010 – The National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL) Research Support Facility was recognized by the national Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) for the efficient energy/green construction – LEED approved award for 2010.
The NREL Research Support Facility is a design-build 222,000 sq. ft., $64 million research facility for the United States Department of Energy. The project is one of the most energy efficient buildings in the world, with a net zero energy design. Weifield completed the electrical install, a 1.2 MW photovoltaic system, a 13.2 KV infrastructure to support the new facility and future campus expansions, and a 20,000 sq ft data center.
Following the RSF I, the Department of Energy began construction on the Research Support Facility II project, another net-zero energy building. The new facility will build on the current technology to improve the energy design.
Not only was Weifield Group Contracting honored with the award for the NREL Research Support Facility, we also contributed to helping the Rocky Mountain Chapter IEC win the national 2010 Spark Award for safety.
