November 4, 2011: Weifield Wins ACE Awards

Weifield is a proud recipient of the 2011 ACE Award for Construction Excellence Award for a subcontractor project between $2 – $6M, the NREL Research Support Facility II. Weifield was also honored with a Bronze award in the category of Meeting the Challenge of a Difficult Job for the project Jeffco School District System Replacement Project.

The awards were announced as winners at the AGC of Colorado 24th annual Awards for Construction Excellence banquet at the Hyatt Regency at the Convention Center Hotel on November 4, 2011.

The Award for Construction Excellence (ACE) is the preeminent construction award, recognizing the “best of the best,” for excellence within the state’s commercial building industry for dynamic design, quality, skill, strength and performance. Nearly 600 attendees attended the banquet.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Research Support Facility II is a 140,000 sq. ft. office building, which will create one of the most energy efficient buildings in the world.  This project is a $39 million north wing expansion to the RSF I, which was a 222,000 sq. ft. $64 million design/build office building completed in June 2010. The expansion was started 6 months after the RSF I completion, and will construct in just under 9 months. The RSF II has a proposed energy design of 33 kBtu/sq ft/year, defined as a net-zero and LEED Platinum project.  Advances in energy efficiency technology will enable the expansion wing to save nearly 17 percent more energy than the first phase.  The project is design/build with a 1.2 MW photovoltaic system and 13.2 kV infrastructures to support the RSF I, II, and future campus expansions. The Jeffco School District System Replacement Project was an extensive and challenging project to replace all the fire alarm and security systems in each school.  This project required work on 21 different schools district wide, and the project had a tight deadline of less than 10 weeks for completion. With the installation of the new systems, there was a unique challenge of the integration into the school districts current mainframe, with the Metsys System.
