September 27, 2010: Weifield Group Commends Excellence on the Jobsite from John Grosch

A safe working environment was ensured by the actions of John Grosch.

EVERGREEN, CO – Weifield Group received a glowing letter of commendation from Martin Galley of Himmelman Construction, regarding John Grosch.  According to Martin, John was responsible for helping the team avoid a possibly dangerous situation on the jobsite at Rocky Mountain Academy of Evergreen.

Gas lines were being moved, and Himmelman Construction’s plumber had properly shut off the gas at the exterior meter and locked it with a padlock per normal safety procedures.  A gas smell would be normal because the unhooked lines would have residual gas in them.

As usual, John had stayed late and was cleaning up.  He called Martin and told him as he was climbing a ladder, he put his hand on the end of an open pipe and felt pressure.  He insisted Martin return to the jobsite and investigate.  Martin came back and checked the line, confirmed the pressure, and called Xcel’s emergency hotline.  The meter was not working properly, and was releasing gas into the building.  The secondary valve was also not functioning correctly.

In the letter Martin sent, he had this to say about John, “thanks to John Grosch, I was able to evacuate the building safely, a Boy Scout meeting was in progress.  I commend John for his actions and determination to make me come back to the site.  He cares about people and their welfare, and operates at the highest level of professionalism we could ask for.  Thank you for giving us the opportunity to work with such a fine example to others.  Today we have a safety meeting on-site to reinforce the importance of looking out for one another and maintaining a safe working environment.  And most of all, thank you John.”
