Why Weifield Group
Weifield Group Contracting promotes and shares the following values in all that we do. Our commitment to our customers is to provide trained and skilled electricians, quality workmanship and installation, electrical safety, customer satisfaction, and competitive rates.
We utilize value engineering options, sustainability practices, lean construction, and BIM. We streamline our construction process to eliminate costly rework, provide real-time value engineering options, reduce energy consumption, eliminate construction waste, and offer multiple solutions to maintain aesthetics and cost effectiveness.
EXTENSIVE TRAINING, QUALITY WORKFORCE
The only limits on our staff’s education are self-imposed. Weifield Group trains all of its apprentices in the Independent Electrical Contractors’ BAT/OA certified apprenticeship program. Weifield Group also has members on the apprentice and training committee. All of our journeymen wiremen are also trained in continuing education courses at IEC and the local community colleges. We believe that the highest trained electricians will provide the highest quality products.
Through physical ability testing, our workforce is matched accurately to positions. New hires, employees returning to work, job placement/matching programs, and wellness programs are subject to physical testing. Not only does the quality of work improve, it helps employees avoid potentially unforeseen injuries.
SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES
Weifield promotes green building and energy conservation in our design and construction process. As a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), Weifield is actively engaged in LEED best practices. Our portfolio of LEED certified jobs include silver, gold, and platinum projects. Weifield has also completed a net-zero energy project for the Department of Energy, one of the most energy efficient buildings in the world.
LEAN CONSTRUCTION
Weifield is constantly looking for ways to improve our sustainable building practices. We strive to eliminate anything that doesn’t add value to a project. We set goals to meet our customer’s needs while using less material in the process. We take the typically rigid and wasteful construction process and
transform it in the beginning by highlighting problems and resolving them quickly.
VALUE ENGINEERING
We identify 3-5 areas upfront where we can use our experience to potentially reduce costs, eliminate challenges, and reduce the schedule duration. Once the options are evaluated and solutions identified, we coordinate with the electrical engineer. The last thing Weifield Group wants to do is reduce cost in the electrical division and drive up another division, (i.e. mechanical).
SAFETY
Weifield cares about our employees and wants everyone to go home every night safe and sound. We employ a full-time safety manager and comply with all project safety requirements, assisting the client in being proactive with onsite planning and training. Our safety manager is a member of the safety committee at IEC and is constantly working to create a safer workplace. He has achieved OSHA 500 certification and does OSHA 10 training in-house so that all Weifield Group staff is OSHA 10 trained. We require a safe and drug-free environment with pre-employment and employment drug testing as part of our full company safety program.
SCHEDULING
At Weifield Group, we pride ourselves on our ability to stay ahead of schedule. We work with the general contractor to solve problems before they arise, keeping the job on schedule. We also work with the other trades on the job to assure a smooth flow of work. Weifield identifies conflicts and problems ahead of time to solve the problems proactively.
BUILDING INFORMATION & MODELING (BIM)
The use of BIM technology has become a key component to everyday construction to identify conflicts and solve problems. Weifield Group takes this seriously and uses the layouts generated from our foremen to implement them into the 3-D CAD modeling. We then meet with the entire MEP & fire protection team to review and eliminate conflicts. This allows for a smooth operation when performing the work in the field.
CONTRACT MANAGEMENT – ON TIME AND WITHIN BUDGET
Weifield’s approach to contract management includes preconstruction, project management, field superintendent, and ownership involvement on every team. Once awarded a project, our preconstruction team quickly involves the operations team in a turn-over meeting to ensure the final scope of work is clarified and contracted so the planning, lay-out and buy-out process can initiate. From this meeting we generate follow-up items, to-do items, material lists (identifying long-lead items), prefabrication, a submittal log, and a timeline for layouts.
Once operations receives the project we review the general contractor’s schedule and perform a complete manpower forecast. We then generate three week schedules weekly to ensure we are meeting the overall schedule. This process allows us to proactively solve problems before they arise, identify when materials are needed on-site for projects with limited storage, and identify activities for manpower.
Weifield’s field superintendent is also responsible for manpower and material forecasting in the gross margin reports, which are completed monthly. In addition to the field superintendent tracking production, we also utilize American Contractor software, which tracks units installed vs. hours spent from the estimate vs. actual work. The production of every employee is calculated against the company metrics daily. This real-time data allows Weifield to maintain project schedules and profitability as evidenced by our financial statement and client references.
QUALITY CONTROL
Quality is a main focus at Weifield Group. We pride ourselves with zero punch lists, low warranty requests, and a quality far above other contractors. In order to obtain this high quality we have multiple checks and balances. We start with a detailed quality control program which the field superintendent uses to check every aspect of the project. Depending on the project we may also include a commissioning plan identifying proper installation.
We utilize weekly visits from the construction managers to ensure construction is consistent from project to project. The construction managers are also involved in the buyout of the project so they have an understanding of what is required in the specifications and can double check the actual installation. During these inspections they can see if personal protective equipment is being utilized, work areas are clean, and materials are organized. Part of our quality control program includes job hazard analysis, pre-task planning, and energize permits to help avoid both safety and quality issues.
WARRANTY
Weifield Group honors its warranty commitments completely. We have licensed electricians in company vans on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so we can respond immediately to any electrical warranty issues.
VALUES AND INDUSTRY
Our core values start with the ownership team and are translated to the employees and community. Weifield has had ownership serve as a past president of the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC), which is the largest construction apprentice training program with over 650 apprentices in school annually. We currently serve on the executive committee of Constructor and Designers Alliance (CDA) which is comprised of 23 construction associations, from designers to sub-contractors, working to promote the construction industry and recruit and train the next generation.
