Why Weifield?

Weifield Group was chosen for NREL’s second Research Support Facility project because of our excellent performance on the Research Support Facility I project.  We proved ourselves as a great team player and valuable asset to the design-build team.  The general contractor was confident in our ability to perform and awarded us the project with no competition.

Project Scope

This is the second net zero energy Research Support Facility being constructed on the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s campus in Golden, CO.  This project is a 190,000 sq ft design-build office building modeled after the RSF I’s energy design of 35 kBTU/sq ft/year.  The RSF II will build on technology developed with the first phase to improve efficiency.  Weifield will carry all subsystems, including telecommunications, audio/visual, fire alarm, security, and intercom, which will be tied tinto the campus’ existing communications and security systems.  The RSF II will also incorporate a photovoltaic system to assist with onsite power generation.
