LEED: Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (U.S. Green Building Council)

Weifield Group Contracting is extremely committed to sustainable building practices. We are members of the National U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Denver Metro USGBC.

We possess one of the strongest LEED resumes of any electrical contractor in Colorado:

  • We have wired multiple LEED Platinum, LEED Gold and LEED Silver-certified buildings.
  • We have LEED Accredited Professionals (APs) in our preconstruction department, project management, and field management.
  • Most importantly, we have wired a 220,000 sq. ft. net-zero energy office building – National Renewable Energy Lab’s new Research Support Facilities (RSF), located in Golden, Colorado. This exciting building was a design build project and Weifield Group Contracting worked with the design team to provide the most energy efficient lighting package possible. Our projected actual usage is 80% below ASHRAE 90.1. We are currently working on RSF2, another net-zero energy building on the NREL campus.

There is no one in the nation with the same experience in sustainable projects as Weifield Group Contracting.

Our sustainability and LEED practices include meeting the following sustainability requirements:

  • Working closely with the project team to assure compliance with the SWPPP. This important document achieves SSp1.
  • Working closely with the project team to stay within the established project boundaries to do our part in achieving SSc5.1.
  • Working closely with the lighting designer to assure compliance with SSc8—Light Pollution Reduction.
  • Working closely with the commissioning agent to verify all systems are installed and calibrated as designed: EAp1.
  • Per EAc3, Enhanced Commissioning, we will work closely with the CxA in all electrical commissioning activities including but not limited to:
    • Assisting the CxA in building the single manual that provides future operating staff with the information needed to understand and optimally operate the commissioned systems.
    • Assist the CxA by providing training for the operating staff and building occupants for the electrical systems.
    • Assisting the CxA and the Design Team by providing timely concise submittals for the electrical systems.
    • Per EAc1, Optimize Energy Performance, we will assist the design team in designing the most energy efficient lighting system possible. We not only reduce lighting energy costs, we reduce the amount of cooling required to offset the heat generated by the lighting system. We will also assist in Daylighting Design, balancing energy consumption with budget concerns (e.g., dimming ballasts versus on/off functions). Dimming ensures maximum energy savings but adds significantly to the fixture costs. We will work with the design team on all aspects of this important credit.
    • Per EAc2, Onsite Renewable Energy, Weifield Group Contracting has considerable experience in designing and installing Photo Voltaic arrays. If renewable energy is part of this project we can budget, design and install the system.
    • Per EAc5, Measurement and Verification; this important credit cannot be achieved without proper metering of all systems. We will work with the design team to assure proper metering.
    • Per MRp1 and MRc2, Recycling: Almost everything we install is either copper, aluminum or steel. We recycle because it makes good business sense. We will work with the team to assure proper documentation to assist in achieving these points.
    • Per MRc4 and MRc5: Although electrical components are not included in these calculations, in the spirit of sustainability we provide much of our material from vendors that produce it locally. We can provide even light fixtures that are manufactured within 60 miles of Denver.
    • Per IEQc3, we will work with the team in honoring the provisions of the Indoor Air Quality Management Plan
    • Per IEQc4, we will use low emitting materials to assure compliance.
    • Per IEQc6, we will work with the design team to allow appropriate personal control to achieve this credit.
    • Per IEQc8.1; we will work with the design team to assure proper Daylighting measures to achieve this credit.

When you work with Weifield Group, you can be assured that we have the credentials, the people and the desire to help you meet your environmental and LEED goals. We are certain we are the right team to assist you with your sustainable projects!
