We are excited to profile some of the highly competent and committed women in our ranks, this week – Andrea Quaint, Weifield Apprentice!
“WHAT I ENJOY MOST ABOUT THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY IS BEING ABLE TO STAY BUSY AND CONSTANTLY LEARNING” ~ ANDREA QUAINT, WEIFIELD APPRENTICE
Before joining the construction workforce I was proceeding a career in education. I was working at an Episcopal school as the assistant director of their aftercare program. As well as doing the assistant director’s job, I was also in charge of caring for the middle school students. Due to the job only being offered during the school year, I was also a nanny for a family who attended the school. I was with them for roughly six years before moving to Colorado and joining Weifield. After realizing that I didn’t want to be part of the education, I decided to look into other careers. That led me to looking into trade jobs, which at the time was in need of workers. I’ve always done extremely well in math, which is what attracted me to become an electrician.
What I enjoy most about the construction industry is being able to stay busy and constantly learning new things which has definitely been the most enjoyable part so far.
As for mentorship, support and guidance in my career – Coming into this trade with no experience I would really like to thank the journeymen and foremen that I’ve gotten to work with in the last three years. I’ve been lucky to work alongside a lot of incredibly patient people. That alone is the best support to receive when first starting out. I would also like to personally thank Sage Johnson, who recommended hiring me in the first place.
Before being hired on at Weifield, I had applied to a few other companies. However, due to my lack of experience I never heard back. Weifield was the only electrical company that applied to that was willing to take a chance on a woman who had no prior knowledge of the field. I like that they are able to give women the chance that we can succeed in a world that is primarily ran by men.
Once I complete the last semester of school and receive my journeyman’s license I plan on running work as a journeyman for a few years before continuing on to become a foreman.

“CONSTRUCTION IS AN INDUSTRY WHERE YOU CREATE, EVERY DAY” ~ JILL FARRAND, WEIFIELD MARKETING DIRECTOR
I began my career at a small hospital in my college town – Winona, MN; it was there in my first communications specialist role where I developed my love of crafting messaging to truly reach people and inspire action. From there, I moved back home to the Twin Cities and worked at KSTP-TV before coming out to Colorado to attend grad school in Boulder. My career has since progressed in my roles as a technical writer, automation analyst, marketing manager, and proposal team director in the IT/data center industries before I came to work in construction in 2014 – at the suggestion of Karla Nugent, Weifield founder.
Construction is an industry where you create, every day – and that approach has always driven me, as well. Whether you build with your hands every day, develop virtual models, create financial spreadsheets, or write marketing messaging – the art of creation is a part of every individual’s mission in this industry. That is inspiring to me.
For mentorship, support and guidance in my career, my first boss at the small town hospital taught me how to develop a story – and that is a gift that keeps on giving to benefit not only me but those who read the stories, today. At Weifield, Karla Nugent (my former teammate in the data center industry and founder of the company, today) supports me personally and professionally and sets the example for me and everyone with respect to what it means to run a business ethically and with a true sense of purpose.
I appreciate the work ethic and drive of every single Weifield employee – that type of environment can’t help but make people better; I also especially appreciate this company’s constant attention to giving back to the communities it serves. There are many businesses who claim to give back, in the world, but Weifield leads in this area and truly walks the talk.
My personal aspiration is to continue to tell all of the stories of the good works this company does – and the industry does, as a whole. There are many stories left to tell.
