Weifield is a new corporate partner to The Master’s Apprentice program, a faith-based social enterprise created to connect industries in need of qualified apprentices and young men searching for a sustainable career. The Master’s Apprentice provides a “pre-apprentice” bridge over the opportunity divide between these young men and the growing need for apprentices in the skilled trades (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, welding, carpentry and masonry). The program recruits young men 18-28 years old from low income communities to participate in a 8-week intensive course that includes work ethic, construction math, financial literacy, career counseling and basic workshop skills. They graduate with a complete personal portfolio including resumes, documents, and certificates needed to qualify with their future employer!

As a corporate partner, Weifield has established a win/win relationship with the organization with a goal of having their graduates become members of our team while meeting our workforce needs. In addition to providing a sponsorship, Weifield’s HR department will help apprentices in the program with mock interviews, and we will provide training and mentorship to help apprentices build their practical knowledge as well as hands-on experience.

On Friday, January 26th, Weifield hosted students from the program at our 21st & Welton project site (as shown in these photos); Field Supervisor Troy Grant & crew did an excellent job explaining what electricians do, showing them current tasks on the project site, and detailing what it takes to become a successful electrician.

We’re excited about this new program and the potential it holds for future electricians in our trade!
