PROJECT DURATION: Oct. 2011 – Jan. 2013
PROJECT CONTRACT: $764K
Design-build electrical services for a dynamometer and grid simulator construction project that assessed the design, fabrication, and testing of a wind turbine analysis system at NREL’s National Wind Technology Center. The CGI is the first test facility in the United States that has fault simulation capabilities and allows manufacturers and system operators to conduct the tests required for certification in a controlled laboratory environment. It is the only system in the world that is fully integrated with two dynamometers and has the capacity to extend that integration to turbines in the field and to a matrix of electronic and mechanical storage devices. The total electrical service for the project was 5MW.
