Weifield’s Special Projects division completed our large design-assist renovation of the Anschutz Central Utility Plant (CUP) Expansion project on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO, in late 2020. This project with Howell Construction involved numerous upgrades including new mechanical units, a new 1000kw generator, paralleling gear, and the addition of two new sections to the existing medium voltage switch gear with new 15kv and 5kv feeders. The new medium voltage gear feeds a new substation installed within the second floor main electrical room — providing power to miscellaneous new electrical distribution. Weifield surmounted several project challenges including multiple cutovers of critical and emergency electrical systems serving the large medical campus, multiple long lead items, and the logistical challenges around hoisting and setting the new generator at the second floor.
Said Todd Johnson, Howell Sr. PM: “The Weifield team did an excellent job keeping the entire team informed and up-to-date on cost issues. They were the top-performing subcontractor and a true team player throughout the project. Weifield did not make excuses – they were always helpful and met or exceeded schedule commitments; their schedule flexibility ensured that the project milestones were completed on time.”
This is the truly the ‘Weifield Way’ of demonstrating excellence – kudos to our TEAM for creating yet another happy client!
